Through the years I have done this I have noticed a few things, many of which bother me. Why is it that people that have no earthly idea what they are talking about reply to messages giving advice that other people are depending upon? I have see countless posts about automotive repairs that tell the inquiring person to replace a certain part or something to that matter, which in reality has nothing to do with the problem. Also, there are the people that say to replace part xyz because it broke on their own car and it fixed the problem. It does not work like that. I really hate it when this happens. Not only do you end up wasting someone else’s time and money because someone thought they knew what they were talking about, but the ignorance curve (as I like to call it) also increase. I may have lost you there so let me explain. The inquiring person receives misinformation, but does not know that this is misinformation. As time goes by, the original inquiring person will post the new found unknown misinformation to other inquiring people. They will then post this information to other people and so on and so forth. So as you can see the ignorance will grow quickly in this exponential form. Don't believe me, well I will give you some numbers for food for thought. According to the care car council, last year over 2 billion dollars was wasted in the U.S. to unneeded auto repairs. So please, please, please if you visit automotive message boards, do not post information you are not 100% sure about. If you post something, know what you are talking about to the point that you would be willing to bet thousands of dollars on the fact that you are right. If not, clearly state that you are not sure or something to that matter, enough so that the person reading the post will be able to take some doubt in the accuracy of your post. I know people are just trying to help, but sometimes it does more harm then good.
